56 – Purebred PIGEON
By Tom Pritchett
The Central Fantail Club annual show is one of the finest displays
of Fantails in the world, with some of the greatest Fantail breeders
displaying their breeding expertise and competing for top awards.
The judging is some of the best in the world where the most
discerning judges evaluate the most competitive of Fantails. The
Annual Banquet, thanks to the efforts of Earl and Grace Biedemann,
has become the perfect end to a wonderful weekend of Fantail activ-
ity. The meal is always excellent and the comradery gives everyone a
chance to unwind before the trip home. The presentation of awards
gives everyone a chance to relive the excitement of the show room
one last time.
The 2022 event was held with the Amarillo National Pigeon
Association Grand National Show. The Fantail hobby has staged
several major meets there with staggering successes each time. This
show was no exception, the Fantail fancy was well represented with
Fantails being the third largest breed in attendance with entries from
across the country, Michigan to Texas and New Jersey to California.
The Amarillo venue is an excellent place to showcase the pigeon
hobby at its very best, two large, well-lit areas that allow for wide
aisleways and roomy judging areas. The NPA Banquet was well at-
tended and it was a pleasure to see Ray Dees receive the NPA Master
Breeder Award for Fantails; congratulations, Ray.
This year’s show was dominated by one breeder, Andrew Kerns
who won all three champions with some gorgeous Fantails. Andrew
drove some twenty hours each way to place his Fantails amongst
some of the finest the Fantail hobby has to offer. Julio Ovando was
the judge for this event and worked hard to find the ·quality in each
class, his excellent judging report reflects the quality of the Fantails
in front of him.
We had about thirty exhibitors from across the nation exhibit-
ing their Fantails, at the end of the judging on Saturday the winning

Congratulations to all the winners, especially to Andrew Kerns,
on his ‘three-peat’; you seldom see a fancier with three back-to-back
winners in this kind of competition. Well Done!
