GIANT HOMER – Page 18 – Purebred PIGEON Breed of the Issue - AMERICAN GIANT HOMER am attaching pictures of our auction team over the years. The first of these guys to leave us I think was Jim Orton then Bob English and a mentor Jack Anderson passed away in 2008. Mike Jones, Roger Kleier, Randy Spahr and I hunted pheasants in the fall at my farm between pigeon shows and talked pigeons in the evening. We sadly lost Mike jones during our most recent covid era. I look back at the friends I have made due to this hobby and I have to say they are fond mem- ories of the shows, the competition and the long talks and discussions with these gentlemen. I’ve had my share of Champions over the years pri- marily in Tulsa before it ended and Grand Island and Hastings in the first 10-15 years of that show – but really all of us had a chance to win and have success due to the parity from top quality birds changing hands at our Futurity sale. In the 1990s we had eight separate District shows, the Louis- ville Young Bird Show, the AGHAYoung Bird Futurity Shows and of course the NPA National. I try to make as many NPA National shows as I can now due to us not having as many local or area shows as in the past. I was in the Wichita, Kansas area from 1978 to 2005 and we had many shows within 4-5 hours of my residence. We had a show in Hutchinson, Kansas; Tulsa, Oklahoma; El Reno, Oklahoma; Hastings, Nebraska that I attended almost every year for about the first 15 years I had the Giants. Our shows are more spread out now but as stated, we still have the Futurity show the first weekend of December and the NPA National show will be in Oklahoma City in January of 2026. If you would like a chance to get a real start in the breed attend our Futurity this December in Norman, Oklahoma. The Auction Sale will be on Saturday December 6 after the Champions are crowned – typically in the a.m. hours. Some of us will also have birds available at the NPA National to new breeders that join the club. Please consider Joining us at one or both shows. If you like a big bodied, muscular bird you will not be disappointed. Come meet us at either of these two shows.
