12 – Purebred PIGEON AmericanPigeonMuseumUpdate By Rick Barker Photos by George de la Nuez The Directors of the American Pigeon Museum and Library (APM&L) are pleased to announce that the museum has now reached over 32,000 visitors since the opening of the “new” building in 2014. Especially this summer of 2024, the daily visitor flow approaches 80-100 people. Of this number, I suggest that perhaps 10% of the total are pigeon fanciers, the rest of the visitors are the general public. The museum has become the number one venue in the country to educate and support the pigeon hobby. The manager recently expressed that often by the time the muse- um opens (10:00 AM), the parking lot is full of vehicles and some park on the grass. Part of the increase in visitation is due to social media platforms like Tik Tok, Yelp etc. and their very good reviews. The city of Oklahoma City and surround- ing communities have embraced the museum. The school districts of those communities now have included school field trips to the museum and that further promotes visitation. The children often are required to write a thank-you note
