Breed of the Issue - CHINESE OWLS CHINESE OWLS – Page 21 – Purebred PIGEON many more colors could be done in some sort of collage which lead Brian Freeman to suggest the Club have a banner made with all of the recog- nized colors on it to be displayed at the major shows. Dick Holm- berg offered to reach out to Gary Romig again to do 48 draw- ings in all 34 recog- nized colors and quite a number of variations. The banner display- ing 40 of the colors was completed in time to be at the 2025 NPA Grand National (Photo at right). Most of the cost of this project was covered by member donations. During this process, Dick suggested that it would be great to incorporate all of the work from the past six years into a member’s hand- book. He presented different formats to the members present at the 2025 annual meeting and they selected one that presents the pictures in groups of three accompanied by the descriptions (an idea of Wes Price), ending with four examples of the Any Other Color (AOC) class. Dick was directed by the President to continue forward with the development of the Handbook. After many hour of typing, phone calls, and emails – a draft was delivered to the President and Secretary/Treasurer for review. Upon approval, it was published in June of 2025. Our constitution and bylaws had not been updated for many years even though there had been several changes through membership votes. Several members were involved in researching the history of additions, amendments, and de- letions to come up with an accurate final version to be used in the Handbook. It was voted on and approved. The National Chinese Owl Club Member’s Handbook is a collection of all of the Club’s documented pol- icies and draw- ings. The “Color Descriptions Accompanying the Standard of Perfection” document is the only one that is different from the original docu- ments that were approved by votes of the mem- bership. Brian re- quested that Wes create a Basic Color/Pattern Helper Sheet to assist members in understanding the expected results from their matings. It is included in the Handbook. Most of the cost of printing the Member’s Handbook was covered by advertisements purchased by 18 members. The feedback from members has been very positive. Our Club is very proud of what we have accomplished in the last 7 years. •
