16 – Purebred PIGEON A beautiful recessive red Dutch High Flyer with nice deep color and type. Recessive red with “smoky factor” – note the dark spot on the end of the beak confirms smoky is present. Smoky will darken the red and the spot on the beak will clear up after the next molt. Albescent strip shown in the tail confirms that it is Non-Spread and Non-smoky. The above Black white side young juveniles and are nest mates. They clearly show that they are Homo smoky with their light beaks, which will darken after each molt, as well as the black body feathers. The one will end up being a white side and the other will clean up as a black shield mottled bird. There are different pathways to get to a quality black white side, depending on the mix of modifiers and the type of Grizzle being used. It’s not rocket science. You just need to get familiar with relative modifiers in this breed and this article is trying to do that.• Deadline for our next issue - January/ February 2026 - is January 10th. This issue will cover the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 Shows. Send materials to staff@purebredpigeon.com or to PBP 108 Freeman Hollow Ct Goodlettsville, TN 37072 Thank you!!
