47 – Purebred PIGEON My loft and Peter’s loft were right next to each other at Caranport. We spent hours and hours studying and debating all the various components of a quality English Trumpeter Peter was a good All Breeds judge and a great English Trumpeter judge. He judged the Pageant several times. An in- teresting incident happened some years ago at the Great West- ern Show where Peter was judging. He had not been breeding his own English Trumpeters for quite a few years but was still judging. A fancier talking to Peter said, “You haven’t been raising E.T.s for many years now. It must be really difficult as the birds have improved so much!” Peter replied, “No, it’s not really that hard because I have always had a great bird’s-eye view in my mind what a perfect English Trumpeter should look like and they are not there yet.” I heard the conversation myself and was pleased with Peter’s answer. I asked my son, Kevin, to describe Peter Wollf. Kevin said, “He was creative and could succeed in anything he set his mind to do!” In my last trip to see Peter and Ann in summer of 2023, as we were heading to the our plane, Peter said, “Good-bye John, my best friend.” I was so pleased and proud to hear him say that. He was truly one of a kind. He is sorely missed by his family and his friends.• – John Heppner
