U pcoming I ssues in P urebred P igeon In spite of an abundance of weird, capricious weather, I’ve heard from a lot of fanciers who have banded lots of baby pigeons! As the National Young Bird Show is back on their normal weekend, October 31-November 1, they should have a good entry as with all the early fall shows. I normally like to start the magazine off with an article that features a lot of beautiful photos but this time, I think the article on the next page is important and I wanted to feature it. It answers a lot of questions about the Avian Flu in a concise way. I think the final paragraph is particularly important: “Continuous education and interaction with authorities needs to be prioritized to ensure that pigeons are not consid- ered as poultry and that quarantine and culling is not done on pigeons during outbreaks of AIV in poultry.” I’ve been asked if I’m concerned about my pigeons. It helps me to be able to share this. If you have other research based material you would like to share, please contact me. Two features coming this Fall: Giant Homers and Chinese Owls! Hope you enjoy the issue!
