Sarcasm is difficult to interpret online without hearing the tone of voice or seeing the facial expressions of the speaker. An “LOL” can be taken as a joking laugh or a mock- ing one. ALL CAPS is tantamount to shouting, even if you only meant it for emphasis. 8. Grace: If someone breaks any of the above guidelines, have some grace. If it is a minor infraction it may be best to simply move on, but if you feel it must be addressed, do so in a private message rather than risk em- barrassing someone or starting a debate in a public forum.
