28 – Purebred PIGEON John DeCarlo Jr. and his wife Angie with their children Elio and Julina Champions line up for Best of Show judging LosAngeles PigeonClub Plays aMajorRole in the Success of the SanDiegoCounty Fair By Robert “Bob” Nolan The San Diego County Fair held annually at the Del Mar racetrack is one of the few fairs left in California that still has a pigeon show. Sadly Pomona, Orange County, Ventura, and San Bernardino do not offer a show for pigeons. In the recent past, entry numbers at the San Diego Fair had dropped frightfully low. The show was on the verge of being canceled for lack of participation. The fair personnel said if we would keep the numbers up to at least 200 the show would continue. Launi Nolan helped to keep the entries up by providing computer help to those not com- fortable with on line entries. For the last two years we have reached that goal and there are no signs of the show being dropped. The Los An- geles Pigeon Club can be proud of the support our members have given the show. This year LAPC members Tom Mona- han, Drew Lobenstein, Alan and Penny Harsen, Kathie Johnson, Bobby Perrenoud,, Bob Nolan, Clint Messerschmidt Sr. & Jr., Launi Nolan, Herb Matheson and Chuck Brandt supported the event. Entries from the San Diego area came from Connor & Cory Hayes and Dave Makeipo.
